Polepeople: UK’s original and oldest pole dancing studio running since 2003

Polepeople was my first pole studio, so it has a special place in my heart. I grew up dancing, travelling with a troupe, performing show after show. It was mostly folk and ballet, with a bit of acro thrown in because I couldn’t resist being upside down. Then life happened. At uni I did nothing remotely active and really missed moving my body. I tried the gym (awful), tried some gym classes (also awful), and then one day I saw a Nero music video with a pole dancer and thought: I have to try that. 

I found the Polepeople beginner course and never looked back. My instructor Jai is still my instructor to this day! Jai makes classes fun and challenging, always encouraging and cheering us on. Jai introduced me to a pole community that is kind, fun, welcoming and accepting of all. 

My regular classes with Jai are the Advanced Level 1 and 2 courses, Wednesday or Friday drop-ins and if I managed to book just in time the choreo course. Book in advance if you want to try these as they do sell out.

Over the years the studio has grown and more wonderful instructors joined, I had the pleasure of taking classes with Dominika whose approach to movement will leave you mesmerised. Dominika’s classes are all about tuning into your body and feelings and using the music to express yourself on the pole. Linking movements fluidly, intentionally and mixing that with gorgeous pole tricks. If you want to feel powerful and sexy then Jao might just have what you are after with her spinny and heels classes. And most recently I had taken some drop-ins with Julien who helped me learn some new challenging tricks which seemed out of reach. 

No matter who is teaching, Polepople will make you feel good about yourself after each class, encourage you to grow and introduce you to kind and accepting people who will stay in your life for years to come. Alison (the founder) has made sure that the team behind the studio is kind, caring and skilled to help you transform into a pole fairy.

When I decided to become a pole instructor, it was a no-brainer that I would do my qualification here. I will always recommend Polepeople to everyone interested in learning to pole dance.
